The Zhadima Students’ Union (ZSU) held its Biennial Day under the theme “Honouring our Past, Shaping our Future” at the Zhadima Community Hall on 18 December 2024. The occasion was marked by the launch of the Zhadima Heritage Club (ZHC).
Neiyalie Pfüsenuo, Treasurer of the Nagaland Olympic Association (NOA), graced the occasion as the keynote speaker. In his address, Pfüsenuo highlighted the critical role of education in shaping the future of individuals and society at large. He highlighted how education serves as the foundation for personal growth, professional success, and societal progress. Emphasising the hopes and dreams that parents place on their children, he reminded students of the immense responsibilities they carry.
Pfüsenuo urged the student community to view academic education as more than a mere requirement, but as an opportunity to unlock their potential. Further, he inspired students to adopt a determined mindset and maintain unwavering focus on their aspirations, and contribute meaningfully to society, thereby creating a ripple effect of progress and development.
Pfüsenuo also encouraged young students with athletic potential to diligently refine their sports skills while keeping education a priority. He stressed the importance of balancing academic pursuits with athletic aspirations, highlighting that both are essential for holistic growth and success. Recognising the rising focus on sports in Nagaland, he pointed out the state’s untapped potential in this sector, encouraging students to seize the opportunities available and excel in their chosen fields.
He also urged the youth to uphold values by showing respect and honour to elders, emphasising that such virtues bring blessings and strengthen communal harmony. Pfüsenuo also highlighted the significance of preserving linguistic heritage, calling on the younger generation to actively learn and use Tenyidie, the native language.
During the event, Pfüsenuo shared the origins of Zhadima Village, captivating the audience with stories of their ancestral roots. He stressed the importance of understanding and revisiting the community’s history, which serves as a foundation for its identity. Applauding the launch of the Zhadima Heritage Club, he described it as a vital organisation dedicated to safeguarding, nurturing, and promoting the community’s rich heritage.
He encouraged the community to rally around the Club’s initiatives, urging them to actively contribute to its mission of preserving its culture and ensuring that the legacy is passed down to future generations.
Neilalhoulie Soliezuo, Chairman of the Zhadima Village Council exhorted the students, emphasising the importance of discipline and obedience as key virtues for success in life.
ZSU President Medolenuo Ambrocia Loucü warmly extended her greetings to the attendees, expressing gratitude for their presence and support. In her address, she shed light on the various initiatives undertaken by the ZSU to uplift and empower the student community.
Among the union’s regular activities, she highlighted the annual cleanliness drive, which fosters environmental awareness and community involvement, and the felicitation programme that recognises and celebrates the achievements of meritorious Class 10 and 12 students.
Loucü further elaborated on two key projects initiated by the student body- the introduction of the ZSU Presidential Scholarship, an initiative aimed at encouraging academic excellence by awarding scholarships to two deserving students each year, and the launch of the Zhadima Heritage Club, a project dedicated to preserving and promoting the cultural heritage of the community.
Vizosielie Khoubve, member, ZHC drafting committee, provided a detailed overview of the club’s vision and mission during its launch. He explained that the club would consist of a Permanent Council alongside active participation from the entire community, fostering inclusivity and shared responsibility.
Khoubve emphasised that the ZHC, conceived as a brainchild of ZSU, was founded with the central purpose of safeguarding the village’s rich cultural and historical heritage. Its objectives include preserving and documenting the legacy of Zhadima, promoting cultural awareness, and celebrating the unique identity of the community.
He elaborated on the club’s various planned activities, which include preserving traditional practices, artifacts, and stories for future generations, conducting research and recording the village’s historical and cultural narratives, and organising events to educate the community about their heritage.
Head GB, Kedilezo M Keditsu, officially announced the new team of the ZSU for the tenure 2025-26, with Mhasizolie Metsieo as the president. He extended his congratulations to the incoming team and commended the outgoing members for their dedicated efforts and contributions during their tenure.
The event was chaired by Razousituo Loucü, Speaker of the Northern Angami Students’ Union (NASU). The ceremony began with an invocation by Pastor Ruokuongulie Chüpuo of A.G. Church, Zhadima Basa.
During the programme, the logo of the club, and a music video titled “Zhadizou Geizo” was also launched by the keynote speaker. The music video featured former Naga Idol Ruokuovotuo Pfüsenuo, alongside Mhasizolie Metsieo, Vizosielie Khboubve and Medolenuo Loucü.
Renowned Tenyidie singer Visetuo Chüpuo, Kikruvinuo Sanchu, and the Kimho Khel enthralled the audience with musical and folk performances.
The program concluded with a vote of thanks by Duolhouvi-o Kuotsu, ILP Secretary, followed by the mass singing of “A Ra Kezivi”.
