He announced this at a press conference on January 20 at the Congress Bhavan Kohima. Jamir mentioned that they were happy to welcome them and said this is an occasion that shows that Congress will march for the people  and with these young people joining them, they hope to bring more changes. “These groups of people have also shared their vision to work for the grassroot level and this is the turning point for the Congress,” said Jamir.

NPCC Working President Khriedi Theiinuo stated that they were happy that this group had decided to join them, to strengthen and give cooperation in helping the vision and mission of the party

Bitong Sangtam, Former Vice President of NPP stated that they joined Congress not because they hate or dislike the other party but because they see something for the future and had come with young people who can work hard for the party.

“We have worked hard for the NPP but due to some reasons, we saw better working future in the Congress party. We saw room where we can utilize  and give our best performance,” said Sangtam.

He also expressed dissatisfaction over the working system of their former party where they did not experience growth, but witnessed stagnancy and failure to move forward. “The party was not going forward and we tried our best so we were disheartened. We have been tolerating for a long time and waited but our patience ran out as we did not see much changes ahead,” said Sangtam.

Meanwhile, L. Hiketo Shohe, Former General Secretary of NPP stated that he decided to join the congress party believing in the visions  and principles that the congress party had. He said he believes that Nagas in general need a drastic change and a paradigm shift in politics.  He said that by joining the congress, they see better vision. He also mentioned that he had no grudge against any of his former party of colleagues  but he saw the need to move ahead in the interest of the public. “The needs of the people can be achieved only through the Congress. This is not a hasty decision but this was made after thorough deliberation and thought. Congress is the platform for young people like us to venture into the world of politics, marking today as our beginning. We are not worried about not having a single MLA in the August house but we are hopeful that congress will perform better in the next election as we have seen in the last election that the people’s mandate is with the party,” said Shohe.

When asked about the views of the congress on the Protected Area Regime(PAR),  NPCC Working President Khriedi Theiinuo said,”This type of policy is making us isolated from the rest of the country and it won’t be a good thing for Nagaland and GoI. GoI cannot make a particular state to be a prohibited restricted area. What does it signifies, what does it mean before others as to how they are defining our state in such a manner.?”

Theünuo assured that they will raise the issue in the parliament through MP Supongmeren. He also lamented that such regime affects relationships with other states and even investment.

“We are taking this matter very seriously and will pursue the matter,” added the President.

In the FMR issue which they had taken up in the parliament, Supongmeren Jamir stated that the GoI understood the sentiment of the Naga People, the brotherhood of the Naga and the Burma.
