As part of the 25th anniversary celebration of Rüna Khrietho–Maong Aksü, commemorating 25 years of friendship and intertribal relationship between Ungma and Tuophema villages, the 2nd Friendship Meet, social and cultural exchange programme between the Soyim Students’ Union (SSU) and the Tuophema Village Students’ Union (TVSU) was held at Naro Tekong Tourist Centre, Ungma Village on May 1 under the theme, “Synergy in Cultural Heterogeneity.”

The celebration was held under the broader anniversary theme “Kaamzemshi,” an Ao term meaning “to bolster amity,” which facilitated the enduring friendship and unity shared between the two communities.

Vikeduo Seyie, President of Tuophema Village Youth & Sports Organisation (TVYSO), also addressed the gathering. He stated that youth leaders had come together with a clear purpose while seeking God’s blessings to strengthen their friendship.

He noted that over the years, the bond had remained strong through mutual support and cooperation among the youth. He encouraged the younger generation to continue striving together in unity and also urged them to remain grateful to their elders for laying the foundation of the relationship and to continue nurturing the bond for the future.

Delivering the theme address on “Synergy in Cultural Heterogeneity,” Rev Dr Noklen Longkumer emphasized that cultural identity is a powerful strength that the present generation must preserve and promote.

He highlighted that cultural diversity should not be viewed as a barrier but as a means to unite people by building connection, understanding and exchange of traditions. He encouraged individuals to broaden their perspectives by engaging with different cultures and building relationships beyond their immediate circles.

While acknowledging the challenges that may arise in maintaining friendships across cultures, he stated that such challenges should motivate people to actively share and promote their cultural values. He said that culture plays a vital role in bringing unity among diverse communities and that embracing cultural heterogeneity could help build a more inclusive and harmonious society.

Talionen stated that the gathering was more than just an event, describing it as “a celebration of unity, friendship, and the strong bond we have built together over the years.” He said the programme reflected shared traditions, mutual respect and cooperation between the two communities.

He further remarked that the friendship continued to grow beyond boundaries and connected the people “as one extended family.” He encouraged everyone to embrace the richness of diverse cultural heritage and celebrate the synergy that makes Naga identity unique.

A retrospection on the friendship bond between Ungma and Tuophema villages was presented by Imtiyapang Jamir, Councillor of Mokokchung Municipal Council (MMC). He shared that the relationship was first established in 2001 during the Sekrenyi Festival under the leadership of respected elders including Dr SC Jamir and Neiphiu Rio.
