The Imkongmeren Sports Complex in Mokokchung came alive today with the spectacular opening ceremony of the 35+ Mokokchung Football League’s 4th Season. Formerly known as the Mokokchung Friday League (35 and Kicking), this exciting football extravaganza has transitioned into the 35+ Mokokchung Football League, marking a significant shift from Friday to Saturday matches for its fourth season.

In his brief speech, Match Patron Chuba Phom paid tribute to the legacy of Ao’s pioneers in various fields, particularly football in the 90s. He expressed concern about the scarcity of local talents from Mokokchung and emphasized the importance of maintaining one’s profile both on and off the field. Phom encouraged the 35+ football enthusiasts to serve as torchbearers in bringing back the glory days of football. He underscored the need for camaraderie among players, stating, “Let us make friends and not enemies,” and highlighted the role of such activities in deterring alcohol consumption while promoting a healthy lifestyle.
Dr Lanu Walling, reflecting on the league’s journey so far, commended the media for their relentless coverage and thanked the divine for their guidance. He recognized key figures like Jamonger, who played pivotal roles in sustaining the spirit of the 35+ Mokokchung Football League. He extended his gratitude to all registered league members for their unwavering commitment. He stressed that being 35+ should not be equated with old age, emphasizing that the league’s focus remains on fitness, fellowship, and friendship. Dr Lanu Walling encouraged players to relish the joy of playing, regardless of age, invoking memories of childhood days. He wished all participating teams the best of luck and urged them to continue scripting the history of this remarkable football league.
The opening ceremony program was chaired by Imlitemsu, an invocation prayer led by Yanglo Pongen, an oath-taking ceremony by the Technical Convenor, and an introduction of players followed by the official kickoff.

The first match of the league, pitting defending champions Revenant FC against Terokroker FC, ended in a thrilling 1-1 draw. Meshenshinba, wearing jersey no. 14 for Terokroker FC, netted a goal in the 16th minute, while Rongsenchiba, donning jersey no. 10, equalized for Revenant FC in the 51st minute.
In the second match of the day, New Ecclesia FC faced off against Wasang FC, with Wasang FC securing a commanding 3-0 victory. Repa, sporting jersey no. 7, struck first in the 36th minute, followed by Chubaangnen, in jersey no. 17, who scored in the 62nd minute, and Repa again, in the 65th minute.
The last match of the day showcased a fierce battle between Trebuchet FC and Senso FC, resulting in an electrifying 2-2 draw. Dibam Domta, in jersey no. 19, and Kabi John, wearing jersey no. 8 for Senso FC, each found the back of the net in the 6th and 15th minute, respectively. Meanwhile, Arenlong, sporting jersey no. 10, and Shilutsüngba, in jersey no. 7, scored a goal each in the 47th and 57th minute, respectively, for Trebuchet FC.
