PDSA lauds athletes for achievements at NWA Traditional Wrestling Championship

The Phek District Sports Association (PDSA) on Friday expressed happiness and pride over the recent accomplishments of its athletes who brought laurels to the district at the 30th Nagaland Wrestling Association (NWA) Traditional Wrestling Championship-cum-1st Wrestling Festival held at Khuochiezie, Kohima Local Ground.

In a press statement, PDSA President Nezosa Tetseo informed that Venuzo Dawhuo, son of Nezohu Dawhuo from Thenyizu village, secured third position at the championship.

Similarly, Venü Vadeo, son of Zaseta Vadeo from Runguzu village, secured fourth position at the same championship.

The association also congratulated Mudoto Dozo, son of Küdülhüto Dozo from Thuvopisu village, for securing second position at the first U-15 NWA Championship, which coincided with the 30th NWA Traditional Wrestling Championship-cum-1st Wrestling Festival.

Further, Kütho Puro, son of Mulusheyi Puro from Porba village, secured third position, while Chüre Pohena, son of Soukho Pohena from Zhavame village, secured fourth position in the first U-15 NWA Championship.

Meanwhile, the PDSA also extended appreciation to Sȕrhoneyi Soho, son of Nekhȕhu from Phek village, for becoming the first person from the Naga community to obtain an International Referee License (Belt Wrestling) under the aegis of United World Wrestling, bearing UWW License No. 57938. He had also officiated at the International Alysh Belt Wrestling Championship held in Kyrgyzstan on April 28, 2024.

The association stated that the athletes and the official have demonstrated unwavering dedication, discipline and commitment to excellence. Their accomplishments, it said, serve as an inspiration to young sportspersons across Phek district, proving that with perseverance and hard work, athletes from the region can shine on national and international stages.

Further, the PDSA congratulated the Nagaland Wrestling Association, headed by its president Vivolie Kezo, for successfully conducting the first edition of the Provisional Championship and the U-15 NWA Championship coinciding with the 30th NWA Traditional Wrestling Championship-cum-1st Wrestling Festival, besides trailblazing Naga traditional wrestling to the national and international community through its introduction at various platforms.

The association reaffirmed its commitment to supporting and nurturing sporting talents in the district.
