A two-day International Seminar on the theme “The Tribal Society of North-East India: Literature, Culture and Traditions” was successfully organized by the Department of Hindi, Kohima Campus, Nagaland University, in collaboration with ICAR-National Research Centre on Mithun on March 19 and 20.
The seminar was conducted under the guidance of the Organizing Secretary, Dr. Brijesh Kumar, who stated that the programme was structured into multiple sessions, including the inaugural and valedictory sessions, along with academic presentations.
The Inaugural Session on March 19 was graced by Prof. Jagadish Kumar Patnaik as the Chief Guest. The Guests of Honour included Prof. K. G. Suresh and Prof. Heinz Werner Wessler. Prof. N. Venuh attended as Special Guest and delivered an address, while the Welcome Address was delivered by Prof. Jano S. Legise. Dr. Vituolenuo Lydia Dzuvichu was the chairperson of the seminar.
The Valedictory Session was held on 20th March 2026, where Mr. Shashank Shekhar Singh was the Chief Guest. Dr. Birendra Kumar Singh Sanjay, a Padma Shri awardee, was the Special Guest, while Prof. Mausumi Guha Banerjee delivered the keynote address. Mr. Michael Thomas from the USA also participated as a speaker. The Vote of Thanks was proposed by Dr. Brijesh Kumar.

Distinguished academicians such as Prof. Sushil Kumar Sharma, Prof. Brijesh Pandey, and Dr. Harish K. Tiwari delivered insightful lectures during the seminar.
The seminar comprised six academic sessions, where faculty members, research scholars, and students from India and abroad presented research papers on various aspects of tribal literature, culture, and traditions of North-East India. The programme witnessed enthusiastic participation and engagement throughout.
The Organizing Secretary highlighted that the seminar was a collaborative effort of faculty members, scholars, and students of the Department of Hindi, led by the Head of Department Dr. Munni Choudhary, along with Dr. Ravi Ranjan Kumar and Dr. Anuj Kumar.
The seminar was aimed at fostering academic exchange and deeper understanding of the rich tribal heritage of North-East India.
