The Nagaland Education Project—The Lighthouse (NECTAR) under the Department of School
Education launched a Grievance Redressal Mechanism (GRM) Portal for Lighthouse School Complexes (LSC) during the one-day orientation for District Level LSC School Related Gender Based Violence (SRGBV) Committees at Hotel De Oriental, Kohima.
It was inaugurated by Chairman, Nagaland State Commission for Protection of Child Rights, Alun Hangsing (NCS Retired). The portal would ensure anonymity of the complainant with automated features that will directly notify the concerned committee.
Delivering the welcome note, Shashank Pratap Singh (IAS), Principal Director of DoSE and Project Director of NECTAR stated that the creation of a GRM is mandated by court directives as well as the United Nations and the World Bank.
Singh underlined the crucial responsibility of the Committee members and stated that since schools are an extension of the home and family, school heads and Teacher Counsellors must ensure a safe and friendly atmosphere for the students.
He also urged the Committee members to handle juvenile cases of gender-based violence sensitively with counselling support.
In the keynote address, Alun Hangsing (NCS Retired) Chairman of NSCPCR, highlighted how nations that have taken child rights seriously in the past have prospered and achieved a high Human Development Index. He stated that, given the significance of child rights, the Indian Parliament has instituted the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR), and subsequently, the Nagaland State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NSCPCR) was also established.
Stating that the LSC SRGBV Committee members have an immense responsibility, Hangsing exhorted them to effectively implement the policies, as the collective aim is for a better future and be on par with other nations.
