An orientation programme for Tenyidie teachers on “A Comprehensive Course on Tenyidie–IX” was organized by the Ura Academy, Kohima in collaboration with the Directorate of School Education (DoSE), Nagaland.
The programme, held at Ura Academy Hall, Kohima on Thursday and was attended by teachers from both government and private schools.
Addressing the inaugural session, Ura Academy president, Dr Shürhozelie Liezietsu stated that the academy, by God’s grace, has grown over the years and contributed significantly to the development of the Tenyidie language, which is now taught up to the university level, paving the way for higher education and research.
He emphasized the vital role of teachers in promoting and preserving the language, noting that without their efforts, the progress of the academy would not have been possible.
He said the language remains central to the identity of the Tenyimi community and must be passed down to future generations.
Describing teaching as a noble and respected profession, Dr Liezietsu urged teachers to take pride in their work, especially in teaching Tenyidie, which he termed “priceless.”
He added that beyond earning a livelihood, teachers play a crucial role in preserving culture, traditions and heritage.
