In a significant breakthrough, Dimapur Police have successfully solved a kidnapping and extortion case registered at East Police Station on April 21, 2026, leading to the arrest of two accused persons and seizure of crucial digital evidence, including CCTV footage.

According to a press release issued by Commissioner of Police, the case came to light after a written FIR was lodged by one Ruhon Das, a resident of Sematilla, Dimapur. The complainant stated that on April 20 at around 7 p.m., while returning home after closing his shop at Hongkong Market, he was allegedly followed and wrongfully restrained by two unidentified individuals near the Murgipatti area.

The accused reportedly forced the victim towards the highway near the Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC) office, where they allegedly threatened and intimidated him for money. During the incident, the accused forcibly took possession of the victim’s mobile phone and compelled him to disclose the password to his Google Pay account.

Police stated that the accused then took the victim to an IOC Petrol Pump at Ghorapatti, from where an amount of Rs. 6,000 was allegedly withdrawn from the victim’s account. Thereafter, the victim was taken towards the City Tower area and later released near Vishal Mega Mart, following which the accused fled the scene.

Immediately after receiving the complaint, East Police Station personnel launched a detailed investigation and visited the place of occurrence. CCTV footage collected from the IOC Petrol Pump and other public locations reportedly played a crucial role in identifying the accused persons, as the footage clearly captured their movements and identities.

However, the department assured citizens that all serious offences are being dealt with promptly and professionally, with continuous efforts being made to ensure the safety and security of the public.
