International Nurses Day celebrated at Longleng

District Hospital, Longleng celebrated the 15th International Nurses Day in collaboration with the Health Care Nursing School, Longleng on the theme “Our Nurses, Our Future. Empowered Nurses Save Lives” at the CMO’s Conference Hall, Longleng on May 12. The day is observed every year on 12th of May to celebrate nurses and to honour their contribution to healthcare service around the world.

Speaking on the theme, guest of honour, Senior Gynaecologist DHL, Dr Nounenuo Terhase explained that the theme “Our Nurses, Our Future” campaign aims at reshaping health policy and investing in the profession, focused on empowering nurses through better working conditions, professional development and leadership roles to strengthen healthcare systems, and improve patients’ care.

On the occasion, Dr Terhase honoured the Nurses, who serve with compassion, resilience and with professionalism every day and thanked them for their dedication and hard work. She also stated that nursing is a profession with high standards with a strong sense of public service. She informed that the working environments of nurses are tough and stressful, but their dedicated service forms the backbone of the healthcare system, providing care, comfort and hope to countless lives. Lastly, she called upon the nursing community to be a frontline of change.

A special prayer for the Nurses was pronounced by Associate Women Pastor Ao Baptist Church Longleng, Asangla Imchen. While ‘My Nursing Journey’ was shared by Staff Nurse DHL, Vezhohulu Tunyi. An enlightening performance of drama and dance were performed by the ANM students, HCNS Longleng. Earlier, the programme was chaired by Bsc Nursing Tutor HCNS Longleng, Kikasashi Longkumer, and invocation prayer was said by Vaccinator DHL, A Pongthai Phom. The welcome address was delivered by TNAI President Local Unit Longleng, Ellen Bongyang, while the vote of thanks was delivered by Nursing Incharge DHL, Lily Phom, and concluded with benediction by mass.
