Nature SBI Foundation Kiphire observed World Hypertension Day at Modern Cambridge School, Amahator Town, Kiphire, Nagaland on May 16.
Speaking at the programme, Pikhumla, Staff Nurse, Nature SBIF Kiphire highlighted that hypertension or high blood pressure is known as a “silent killer” because many people do not know they have it. She said hypertension can lead to heart disease, stroke, and kidney disease if not treated properly.
She encouraged everyone to check their blood pressure regularly and know their health condition. She also spoke about the importance of healthy lifestyle habits such as eating nutritious food, doing regular exercise, maintaining healthy body weight, avoiding smoking and alcohol, and following medical advice.
Pikhumla further shared diet tips on the DASH diet, which stands for Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension. She explained that the diet focuses on fruits, vegetables, whole grains, low-fat dairy products, and lean protein while reducing salt, sugar, and saturated fat intake.

T Kirithong Sangtam, Chairman School Management Committee, said that education is important to lead a civilized life, and good health is necessary to enjoy life fully. Therefore, health awareness and medical camp programmes are very important for the welfare of the people. He thanked the Nature SBI Foundation team led by Longtili C Sangtam for organizing the programme.
Longtili C Sangtam, Project Lead Nature SBI Foundation Nagaland thanked the school authority for hosting the programme. He stated that although World Hypertension Day is observed on 17th May, the programme was conducted on 16th May since 17th falls on a Sunday.
He expressed hope that the awareness and health camp would benefit students and the public. He also assured that the team remains committed to working for the welfare of the people in the future.
