The Dimapur Naga Students’ Union (DNSU) has appealed to the Governor of Nagaland, Nand Kishore Yadav, seeking urgent intervention against the compulsory imposition of Sanskrit in CBSE schools across the state.

In a representation submitted through the Deputy Commissioner of Dimapur, the Union expressed concern over the sudden introduction of Sanskrit without adequate academic preparation, trained teachers or transition support systems for students.

The DNSU clarified that its objection was not against the learning of any language, but stemmed from the practical difficulties being faced by students and parents due to the abrupt implementation of the subject.

According to the Union, many students are already under heavy academic pressure, and the compulsory introduction of Sanskrit without proper groundwork has created confusion, anxiety and fear of poor academic performance.

The DNSU further pointed out that many schools lack qualified Sanskrit teachers and that there are no tuition or remedial support for students who have no prior background in the subject. It said in this situation, making Sanskrit compulsory without first ensuring teacher availability and support systems places an unfair burden on students.

The Union urged the Governor to immediately review the compulsory imposition of Sanskrit in CBSE schools in Nagaland.

The DNSU also sought suspension of the implementation until proper teachers and learning support systems are made available, besides calling for consultation with schools, parents and student bodies before introducing major academic changes.

The Union appealed that the welfare of students be prioritised and that no subject be made compulsory in a manner that disadvantages learners due to administrative and infrastructural shortcomings.

It requested the Governor to intervene urgently and direct the concerned departments and authorities to review the matter in the interest of students, parents, and the academic future of the young people of Nagas.
