A three-day polyclinic providing free consultation and treatment by specialist doctors commenced at the Urban Public Health Centre (UPHC), Seikhazou, on Tuesday under the Health Grants component of the 15th Finance Commission 2021–22.
Speaking to media persons, Medical Officer of the centre, Dr Bilva Yalie, said that the polyclinic is expected to serve a large number of patients during the month and bring specialist healthcare services closer to the community.
She emphasized the need for greater public awareness about the various healthcare services that are regularly available at the centre every month. According to her, the initiative was primarily organised to support patients who are unable to travel to the Naga Hospital Authority Kohima (NHAK) for specialist consultations.

Dr Yalie stated that specialist services are available at the UPHC itself, where patient attendance is comparatively lower than at NHAK, making access to healthcare more convenient. She added that all consultations and treatments under the polyclinic are being provided free of cost.
On the opening day, senior specialist and diabetologist, Dr S Neiphrezo of NHAK and gynaecologist Dr Neiketouzo Kulnu of NHAK attended to patients.
She informed that specialists in ENT, dermatology, and paediatrics will be available on June 17, while a medicine specialist will provide consultations on June 18.
Expressing optimism about the initiative, Dr Yalie said the polyclinic would help more people access specialist healthcare services conveniently and without any financial burden.
