Rotary District Governor Dr Kameswar Elangbam visits Rotary Club of Mokokchung

Rotary International District 3240 Governor (2025-26), Dr Kameswar Elangbam, visited the Rotary Club of Mokokchung on Wednesday as part of his official visit to the club at Rotary House, Mokokchung on June 18.

Dr Kameswar Singh Elangbam is an accomplished orthopaedic surgeon serving as the District Governor for Rotary International District 3240 (2025–26). Originally from Imphal, Manipur, he is permanently settled in Shillong, Meghalaya, covering the seven states of Northeast India along with North and central West Bengal. The district has 111 Rotary clubs.

The programme began with a call to order by I Temsu Jamir, Vice President of Rotary Club of Mokokchung, followed by the National Anthem. The welcome address was delivered by the Vice President. Imlitemsu Jamir, Secretary of Rotary Club of Mokokchung, presented the Secretary Report highlighting the activities and initiatives of the club.

Introducing the District Governor, I Temsu Jamir highlighted Dr Elangbam’s role and responsibilities before his address.

Addressing the gathering, Dr Elangbam spoke on Rotary’s role in community service and the need for members to continue their commitment towards society.

He said Rotary works towards creating lasting changes in communities through continuous efforts.

“We are attempting to do lasting change to the community. The little things we do will contribute towards it,” he said.

Speaking on Rotary’s motto, he said, “We believe in service above self. Without any expectation in return, that is called service above self.”

The District Governor highlighted Rotary’s focus areas including education and literacy, water, sanitation and hygiene, healthcare, mother and child care, economic upliftment and environmental protection.

He said Rotary touches different areas of social welfare and encouraged clubs to focus on initiatives that create meaningful impact in communities.

Speaking on mother and child healthcare initiatives, Dr Elangbam said more than 1,500 mothers have benefited through such programmes. He added that when mothers benefit, children and families are also impacted.

He also stressed the importance of creating awareness about Rotary’s presence through community initiatives.

On environmental protection, he stated that “the environment is the ultimate” and called for collective responsibility towards protecting the environment.

Speaking on service, Dr Elangbam said Rotarians support people who require assistance without differences. “We are all equal. We face challenges, and Rotarians are there to support,” he said.

He further said Rotarians should work together to create lasting impact in society. “We must put our heads together, minds together, so that we contribute to having a lasting impact in society,” he added.

Dr. Elangbam also highlighted the importance of Interact Clubs in developing young leaders. “We wanted to build young leaders. That is why we have Interactors,” he said, adding that young people would play an important role in shaping society.

He stated that Rotary believes in peace and harmony and aims to contribute towards a society free from conflicts. Highlighting Rotary’s global presence, he said Rotary has around 1.4 million Rotarians across 221 countries and territories.

Appreciating the Rotary Club of Mokokchung, he described it as a small but vibrant club. He noted that although the club has 20 members, the active members are contributing towards bringing change in the town.

He also emphasised partnerships with schools, hospitals and other organisations, stating that collaboration helps reach common beneficiaries.

Following the address, the Club presented its activities and initiatives carried out during the Rotary year.

The report stated that the Rotary Club of Mokokchung conducted its 50th Installation Ceremony on July 29, 2025, at the Rotary Club House, Mokokchung.

The Club officially chartered the Interact Club of Eden Academy, Mokokchung on September 9, 2025, led by Rotary Club President Rongsentoshi and Secretary Imlitemsu Jamir.

As part of community service, the club visited Aonglar Elderly Care Home at Sungratsu village on September 19, 2025, and extended monetary assistance to the elderly care home.

The club organised a car rally on October 24, 2025, commemorating World Polio Day 2025. Members led by the President and officials participated in the rally wearing club T-shirts and caps. The rally was held from Imkongmeren Sports Complex to Eldora Resort, Mokokchung.

The Rotary Club provided financial assistance to Merenso, who represented the club at the 70 km Ultra Trail Kohima run held on November 8, 2025.

The Club conducted the Nation Builders Award ceremony on November 29, 2025. Five teachers from different schools in Mokokchung district were recognised under the award.

Club President, Rongsentoshi attended the Rotary District Conference ‘Pratidhwani 2026’ held at Shillong on January 11, 2026.  On Republic Day, January 26, 2026, the Rotary Club visited the District Jail, Mokokchung and distributed daily necessities to inmates.

At present, the Rotary Club of Mokokchung has 20 members, including 11 Paul Harris Fellows (PHF).

The Rotary Club of Mokokchung was established on June 18, 1977. The club observed its 49th foundation day on June 18, 2026 and will celebrate its Diamond Jubilee next year marking 50 years of existence. The club began with around 26 charter members, some of whom continue to remain associated with the organisation.

During the programme, 10 ceiling fans were presented to Senkalemba Government Middle School on behalf of Rotary Club of Mokokchung. The fans were handed over by the District Governor.

The programme also witnessed a special song performance by the Interact Club of Eden Academy. Interact Clubs from Eden Academy and Jubilee Memorial School accompanied by teachers, attended the programme.

The visit concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Imtiyapang Imsong, Member of Rotary Club of Mokokchung, followed by dinner.
