MGM College, in collaboration with Instudia, successfully organised a one-day seminar on “Artificial Intelligence in the Education Sector: AI Literacy for the Next Generation” on July 4 at the College Auditorium. The seminar aimed to equip students and educators with a deeper understanding of artificial intelligence and promote its responsible and ethical use in education.

The programme commenced with an invocation by Mhonlumo T Atsopoe, Assistant Professor, Department of Economics. The session was chaired by Lopilo Yanthan, Head of the Department of Commerce, who welcomed the gathering and highlighted the growing significance of artificial intelligence in shaping the future of education. She encouraged students and teachers to embrace emerging technologies while upholding academic integrity and critical thinking.

Delivering the welcome address, Jemsungba Walling, IQAC Coordinator and Convenor of the seminar, extended a warm welcome to the resource persons, faculty members, and students. He emphasized that AI has emerged as a transformative force across education, healthcare, business, governance, and everyday life.

Referring to the vision of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, he noted that AI literacy has become an essential competency for the next generation and urged educational institutions to prepare learners to use AI responsibly, creatively, and ethically.

The seminar featured two eminent resource persons from Instudia—Danil Changkiri, Director and Vishal Bardewa, Technical Advisor. The speakers demonstrated practical ways in which students can effectively use AI to summarise complex concepts, prepare revision notes, generate flashcards, enhance research, and improve learning outcomes through well-crafted prompts. They stressed that AI should serve as a learning companion rather than a substitute for human intelligence and critical thinking.

Participants were also encouraged to verify AI-generated information with teachers and authentic sources, ensuring responsible and ethical use of the technology. The seminar witnessed enthusiastic participation from faculty members and students, reflecting the growing interest in integrating artificial intelligence into higher education.

The interactive sessions enabled participants to gain practical insights into leveraging AI as a tool for innovation, academic excellence, and lifelong learning.

The programme concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Temjen Longkumer, Assistant Professor, Department of Education, who expressed sincere gratitude to the resource persons, the chairperson, the organizers, faculty members, students, and all those who contributed to the success of the event. The seminar ended with the closing invocation by Vikeduonuo Zumvu, Assistant Professor, Department of Commerce.
