The Ao Senden, Watsü Mungdang and Ao Kaketshir Mungdang have issued a 45-day ultimatum to the Department of School Education, Government of Nagaland, demanding immediate rationalisation of teachers and recruitment of subject teachers in government schools across Mokokchung district.

In a joint representation addressed to the Commissioner and Secretary of the Department of School Education, the three apex organisations expressed dissatisfaction over the department’s failure to act on a memorandum submitted on November 11, 2025, highlighting the acute challenges confronting the education sector in the district.

The organisations stated that the earlier memorandum was accompanied by a comprehensive 27-page report based on visits to 196 government schools in Mokokchung district. The report, they said, documented the imbalance in teacher distribution and the severe shortage of subject teachers, particularly in core disciplines such as Science, Mathematics and Languages.

Despite the submission of what they described as an evidence-based assessment, the organisations alleged that no concrete action has been taken by the department to address the critical issues affecting government schools.

They further stated that the department’s continued inaction, despite being fully apprised of the gravity of the situation, was unacceptable and reflected a serious disregard for the academic welfare and future of students in the district.

In view of the prolonged delay, the three organisations have issued a 45-day ultimatum from the date of receipt of the representation, demanding that the department initiate and complete the rationalisation of teaching staff across all government schools in Mokokchung district and immediately recruit and deploy qualified subject teachers, particularly in the core disciplines.

The organisations warned that failure to comply within the stipulated timeframe would compel them to launch appropriate public and democratic measures to safeguard the interests of students.

They further asserted that the Department of School Education would bear full responsibility for any consequences arising from its failure to address the long-pending issues.

Describing the matter as one requiring immediate and decisive intervention, the Ao Senden, Watsü Mungdang and Ao Kaketshir Mungdang said they expected the department to act without any further delay.
