A joint inspection of the Wokha–Hanimi road was conducted on August 7 by MLA Y Mhonbemo Humtsoe, Deputy Commissioner of Wokha K Mhathung Tsanglao and Executive Engineer, R&B, Mhathung Kikon, in view of the deteriorating condition of the road.
The inspection was carried out along the affected stretches of the road, which is currently difficult to access due to its poor condition, including landslides and other obstructions.
Following the inspection, an initiative was taken to clear nearly 40 km of the road stretch with the involvement of the local community and concerned departments. The clearing exercise will focus on removing landslide debris and other obstructions to restore vehicular movement along the affected portions.
The inspection comes a day after the State Cabinet approved the Wokha–Hanimi road as a National Highway during its meeting held at Doyang on August 6.
Meanwhile, the Naga People’s Front (NPF) 38 Assembly Constituency party officials, along with MLA Y Mhonbemo Humtsoe, held separate meetings with villagers of Khumtsu and Tsungza at their respective community halls on August 7.
During the meetings, villagers raised various grievances and concerns while also expressing appreciation to the MLA for the developmental works undertaken in their communities.

Addressing the gatherings, Humtsoe said the Cabinet’s approval of the Wokha–Hanimi road as a National Highway would pave the way for further infrastructure and economic opportunities in the region, enabling residents along the route to benefit from improved connectivity and livelihood opportunities.
The MLA also highlighted the progress of several ongoing and completed projects in the district. He informed that the work order for blacktopping the Tesophenyu–Shaki road has been received.
He further stated that the Working Women’s Hostel at Tsumang Colony is nearing completion. On the GHSS–Molonsu Junction–Hospital Road, he said Phase-I has been completed, while Phase-II, covering the stretch from GHSS/Molonsu Junction to Bailey College via the District Hospital and Sub-Jail, is underway with paver blocks.
Humtsoe also informed that construction of the new Deputy Commissioner’s Office complex is expected to be completed soon.
On waste management in Wokha town, he said a work order has been received for the construction of a Sewage Treatment Plant, with work currently underway. He also informed that street lights would be installed soon.
During the meetings, the MLA highlighted more than 42 ongoing and completed developmental projects across the district, covering road infrastructure, public facilities and other areas of development.
The representatives from the two villages called for a collective mindset towards bringing about positive change, urging people to look beyond personal gains and support leaders who prioritise collective development and work for the welfare of society as a whole.
