Union Home Minister Amit Shah during his brief visit to Nagaland on Friday held a series of meetings with Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio and some selected legislators, BJP state office bearers.

Significantly, Shah also had a closed-door meeting with Dr S C Jamir, former Governor of Odisha and Maharashtra, at Niathu Resort.

Speaking to NTN, Dr Jamir stated that he had apprised the Home Minister that the entire Naga people including the civil societies and churches are crying for settlement. He said he had relayed the message that the Naga people want to live in peace and hence, the solution should not be delayed

“We have had enough of these problems for so many years and so Nagas should also have a chance to live in peace and we should not delay in political settlement,” said Jamir.

Dr Jamir also tuned in the chorus for ‘Solution first then election’, stating that without solution, election should not be held because the priority is to make all things right then only people will have a normal thinking and they can think.

“…election should be postponed or deferred and let solution come first, that should be our priority,” Dr Jamir added.

Meanwhile, Shah also held a meeting with the State BJP office bearers and a highly placed source from the party informed that the Union Home Minister had come to review the poll preparedness of the BJP party in the state.

It informed that the seat sharing formula of 20/40 between the two alliance partners of the NDPP and the BJP was also discussed and the formula still stands for the forthcoming 2023 elections.

“The seat sharing formula has already been signed and sealed so there is nothing more to discuss on that. We will be going on alliance and that is what our central leaders want and that is what the Nagaland BJP unit will follow,” the source added.
