The Ao Kaketshir Mungdang (AKM) General Conference 2023 is set to be held in Akhoya village under Changtongya sub-division, Mokokchung, from 18 to 20 January.
In a press conference held at the AKM office on 15 January, AKM president Nungdokyanger Ao informed that the 69th General Conference will be held under the theme ‘Mapakum Shisaluyim’ which in English translates as ‘Education in Praxis’.
He said the theme has been especially chosen because the AKM is of the opinion that education should be an iterative, reflective approach to discover the skills within the students. It should be an ongoing process of moving between practice and theory, Ao stated, adding that experiential learning has great potential to prepare students to work on interdisciplinary and global challenges across traditional boundaries as well as support them in the development of their skills.
The president also noted that many professions offer skills and the measures of the knowledge that a student requires should be emphasised in order to make the student capable of becoming a certified skilled person who could contribute to the community and sustain oneself in the society.
It was informed in the press conference that a total number of 1,500 delegates from six ranges and sub units along with hundreds of guests will meet in Akhoya village to attend five major conference sessions which includes workshop sessions and business hours.
Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio has consented to attend the occasion as the special guest in the morning session of 19 January, it was further informed.
Minister PWD (H&M) Tongpang Ozukum will be the inaugural guest on 18 January while the valedictory guest will be Minister of Higher Education and Tribal Affairs Temjen Imna Along Longkumer.
The special invitees to the conference are Sharingain Longkumer, Speaker NLA; Metsubo Jamir, Minister of Rural Development; and Imnatiba, Advisor of Industries and Commerce, Labour and Employment, Skill Development and Entrepreneurship.
