A workshop on ‘Women’s Health – Know how your body functions’ was conducted with Dr Nadia Jamir, specialist in Operative Gynaecology & Practitioner and co-founder of Anava Hospital, as the resource person at Christ Church in Mokokchung town on 28 January.

The workshop was attended by women from different walks of life.

Giving a detailed presentation on the topic of women’s health, Dr Nadia explained about the female anatomy and touched on topics such as abdominal functions, puberty in girls and the changes that take place in one’s body, the menstrual cycle, and pregnancy.

The talk was followed by an interaction session with Dr Nadia during which the attendees asked various questions on the topic.

One of the queries was on how cervical cancer can occur and the precautions needed to be taken against it.

Emphasising the importance of the question, Dr Nadia informed that 99.9% of cervical cancer occurs from long-lasting infection with certain types of human papillomavirus (HPV) which she said is the main cause of cervical cancer. HPV is a common virus that is passed from one person to another during sex. The doctor recommended that all women after the age of 21 should go for a regular check up with a gynaecologist.

The attendees of the workshop had various questions for Dr Nadia.

During the workshop, it was also informed that a Postnatal Workout Session for women with Dr Nadia Jamir is organised once a week as a regular workout to help strengthen one’s pelvic floor, abdomen and back. Interested members can get registered in the given contact number +91 89740 61977.

The workshop on Saturday was organised by a group of like-minded people of Mokokchung town who came forward to sensitise women on their health and body functions. The organisers appreciated Christ Church for providing the venue for the workshop.

Christ Church is a non-denominational English church located in Arkong ward, Mokokchung.

Dr Nadia Jamir is a specialist in Operative Gynaecology & Practitioner. Originally from Switzerland, she is now settled here in Mokokchung town. Dr Nadia and her husband, Dr Sungtiakum Jamir, MBBS, DNB (R Surgery), are the founders of Anava Hospital – a project underway in Settsü village, Mokokchung.

The hospital with a current capacity for 40 beds is constructed under Anava Welfare Society in India which is supported by the Anava Foundation in Switzerland.
