The Congress today called upon Rupin Sharma, Director General of Police Nagaland and handed a representation regarding the prevention of corrupt practices in the forthcoming elections to the 14th Nagaland legislative Assembly election.

Wezote Kreo, chairman of the NPCC communications department, was accompanied by Pawan Khera, AICC chairperson of media and publicity, Bhupesh Yadav, AICC media coordinator, and AICC media coordinators in-charge of Nagaland, Mahima Singh and Sujata Paul, in the meeting with the DGP.

In the representation, the Congress expressed concern over the conduct of the general election which is to be held in less than 3 weeks’ time.

The party alleged that during the 2018 elections, “unmonitored corrupt practices” that are punishable by law, such as “booth capturing, physical violence, forcefully removing minority voters from the line, snatching away of voters slips etc while queued up to vote”, took place under the nose of the police personnel.

The congress stated with apprehension that the “spectrum of unethical practices might broaden in the next few weeks in spite of the pre-imposed of Model Code of Conduct” keeping in view that “elections across the country are being subjected to a host of grave corrupt practices like Hate Speech, communal violence”.

Therefore, the party said, it was imminent to caution the Nagaland Police department and hope that it will ensure the conduct of a free and fair election.
