Nagaland constable arrested for drug trafficking in Mokokchung, 276 SP capsules seized

Mokokchung: Police investigating to uncover extent of constable’s alleged involvement

In a significant development, Mokokchung Police have apprehended a constable from the 9 NAP (IR) Battalion, identified as Renpothung Ezung (44 years old), for his alleged involvement in drug peddling. The arrest took place during a routine checking and frisking operation at Settsu Junction on 9th August 2023.

During the thorough inspection of a Tata Sumo (taxi) bearing registration number NL 01 T 9627, officers discovered a cache of illegal substances concealed within various compartments. A total of 276 capsules of Spasmo Proxyvon were found artfully hidden inside a mobile phone box, while an additional 136 capsules were concealed within a brown sling bag. Furthermore, 130 capsules of Spasmo Proxyvon were discovered secreted in a pocket of an Indian Reserve (IR) uniform jacket worn by the constable.

The incident has led to the initiation of a case registered under Mokokchung PS-II C/No. 0034/23, with charges filed under Section 21 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. The Mokokchung Police are expected to carry out a comprehensive investigation to uncover the extent of the constable’s alleged involvement in the drug trafficking network.

The Additional Superintendent of Police and Public Relations Officer (PRO) for Mokokchung, Nagaland, has issued a press release regarding this arrest, indicating that the case will be diligently pursued.
