Nagaland Health & Family Welfare Minister, P. Paiwang Konyak rushed to District Hospital Mon on Monday to take stock of situation amid the sharp rise in Dengue and Conjunctivitis cases in the district. The Minister was accompanied by Mon Deputy Commissioner, Superintendent of Police, Chief Medical Officer, Medical Superintendent, the civil societies and church bodies.
During the discussion with the Doctors, the latter highlighted issues concerning shortage of manpower, equipment and medicine to which the Hon’ble Minister took note of the requirements and assured for deployment of doctors and nurses and ensure the availability of required medicine.

Minister Paiwang conducted a review cum consultative meeting with District Administration, Police, Medical Staffs, HoDs, Assam Rifles, NHIDCL and Presidents KU/KNSK/KSU in the Deputy Commissioner Conference Hall after visiting the hospital.
During the meeting, important issues like the rising cases of Dengue, Conjunctivitis (Eye Flu) and their containment, sanitation, cleanliness, and closing of schools were discussed in detail. The MS, DH, Mon, Dr Mereninla Senlem in her brief report mentioned that till date, a total of 413 samples had been tested for Dengue, of which 65 had come positive.

Expressing serious concern on the rise of Conjunctivitis, the meeting decided to close all the schools from 22 to 26 August 2023 to prevent further spread of conjunctivitis amongst the school going children.
According to DPRO Mon, the minister sought the support of the Assam Rifles, Red Cross, civil societies: Konyak Union, Konyak Nyupuh Shekho Khong, Konyak Students’ Union to usher assistance to the medical department in handling the situation.
In regard to the war against drugs, Minister Paiwang reminded the members of the pledge administered on August 15 and urged them to work together in achieving the pledge.
He requested the district administration, defence and NGOs to coordinate with one another before conducting checking’s so that the same instances like in Tizit and Wokha do not occur.
Further the minister pointed out that any government employees, is/are under the influence of substance should be given three-month time to rehabilitate themselves while also borders be properly scrutinized, build rehabilitation centres so that proper check-up of the inmates can be followed up to prevent from spread of diseases.
Apart from above issues, road condition, monsoon preparedness and Law & Order were also discussed.
The minister also expressed unhappiness over the incident that occurred on August 15 early morning at Aboi and said such an act should be condemned at the highest level.
