Mohammadi who is currently incarcerated at a prison in Tehran has been charged of spreading propaganda against the state.
“This year’s peace prize also recognises the hundreds of thousands of people who, in the preceding year, have demonstrated against Iran’s theocratic regime’s policies of discrimination and oppression targeting women. The motto adopted by the demonstrators – “Woman – Life – Freedom” – suitably expresses the dedication and work of Narges Mohammadi,” informed the Committee.
Narges Mohammadi joins the legacy of the 18 other women to win the Nobel Peace Prize.
The Nobel Peace Prize will be presented in Oslo on December 10, the death anniversary of Alfred Nobel, who founded the awards in his 1895 will.
