Addressing the public in Assam’s Majuli, the largest river island in the world, Rahul Gandhi again called Assam Chief Minister the most corrupt CM in India. Earlier on Thursday, Gandhi had made the same remarks at Sivasagar.
In retaliation, CM Sarma said that the Gandhi family is the most corrupt family in India. Talking to media at BJP headquarter in Guwahati, Sarma also attacked Rahul Gandhi’s family remarking that they use a “duplicate” family name. He further said that the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra was in fact a “miya” yatra. “Wherever there are miyas there are people, where there are no miyas, there will be no people,” Sarma had said in Assamese.
Further, CM Sarma also said that if the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra breaks any law and enter Guwahati city, he will file a legal case against the yatra and arrest the “two people” from Siliguri and bring them back to Assam. He said that he had tried to help the yatra by advising them not to enter the city which according to him will upset the public.
On Friday, Congress General Secretary (Communication), Jairam Ramesh claimed on X that the Sarma is “rattled and is nervous by the tremendous response” of the yatra in the State.
“The Assam CM can abuse and defame, he can threaten and intimidate but we are not afraid. He is obviously disturbed by the huge impact of the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra, which will continue in Assam for another 6 days inspite of his continuing efforts to derail it,” Ramesh stated.
The Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra continues in Upper Assam on its sixth day on Friday. Rahul Gandhi and the followers took a ferry from Jorhat to Majuli island on the Bhrahmaputra River. After lunch, the yatra will proceed to Dhakuakhana in Lakhimpur district and further to Gogamukh in Dhemaji district.
