BJP National President J P Nadda sounded the poll bugle in Nagaland upon his arrival in the state, where assembly elections are due early next year.

Addressing a public rally at GMS ground, Old Riphyim village, Wokha, on 15 September, Nadda highlighted the development push in Nagaland under the leadership of PM Modi.

“Prime Minister has taken special care for Nagaland,” he stated, adding that the Centre was committed to the speedy growth of Nagaland.

“In Nagaland ,667 Km are being added in the National Highway network; that is 76% of growth taking place in Nagaland as far as infrastructure is concerned,” said Nadda.

On the Indo-Naga political issue, Nadda said there were certain issues with the Naga Peace Accord and that Deputy Chief Minister Y Patton and Minister of Higher Education & Tribal Affairs Temjen Imna Along were working on it.

Nadda stated there was an 80% decline in insurgency in the Northeast and that many steps had been taken to make the region peaceful.

He said consistent efforts of the government had improved security situation in the region resulting in a historic decision to reduce areas with the “disturbed area” tag under Armed Forces Special Power Act, AFSPA.

“66% of the area of Nagaland and NE is now out from AFSPA. This is the concern that the Central government has for the people of Nagaland,” the BJP chief stated.

Later in the evening, Nadda attended the State Level party Workers Convention held at Capital Cultural Hall, Kohima. In his address to party loyals, he reaffirmed the commitment of the central leadership’s decision on the seat sharing formula of 20:40 with its alliance partner NDPP.

He stated that the decision of the central leadership should be respected. Nadda said this in his address, responding to Dy CM Y Patton, who in his speech suggested to go for a 30:30 seat sharing formula with NDPP.

BJP National President also attended a meeting with Nagaland BJP legislators where “Party affairs, especially with concern for the upcoming election in 2023” were discussed as tweeted by Minister Temjen Imna Along.

A combined meeting of Nagaland BJP and NDPP was also held, followed by a cultural programme and dinner hosted by Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio at the State Banquet Hall.
