Pre-Subroto Tournament for Mokokchung and Longleng to be conducted on 31st May

The District Sports Office Mokokchung and Longleng will be conducting a Pre-Subroto Tournament on 30th May 2024, District Sports Officer, Mokokchung, Angutovi Sumi informed on Monday. In this regard, DSO is inviting interested players and schools to report to the Office of DSO Mokokchung on or before 27th May 2024.

The Pre-Subroto Tournament is being held under the directive of the Directorate of Youth Resources and Sports, Nagaland, to conduct the District Level Tournament on or before 31st May 2024.

“There will be no tournament for U-17 (Girls) at the District level however, the concerned Districts Officer are directed to prepare a team for State Level Tournament,” the Director of DYRS, Kethosituo Sekhose, NCS, had stated in the Circular to all DSOs and District Youth Resources Officers in Nagaland, dated 10th May 2024.

The Subroto Mukerjee Sports Education Society, the organiser of the prestigious annual Subroto Cup Football Tournament had earlier on 6th March 2024 announced invitation to States, Union Territories and Institutions of India for participating in the tournament.

The 63rd edition of the Subroto Cup International Football Tournament 2024 is planned to be conducted from 30 July to 11 September 2024 at New Delhi in Boys (U-17) and Girls (U-17) categories whereas for the Boys (U-15) category of the tournament is scheduled at Bengaluru, the Society had informed.

It also requested the Directorate of Youth Resources and Sports to conduct pre-Subroto championship to select the champion school teams in all three categories.

Further, the Society said that the Organising committee along with AIFF officials would undertake a skeletal age determination test of all the players at the venue and in case, four or more players are found to be overage from a team then the team will be disqualified from taking any part in the tournament.

The Subroto Mukerjee Sports Education Society also informed that starting 63rd edition Boys (U-15) category would be conducted in place of Junior Boys (U-14) category.

Mention may be made that Nagaland’s U-14 Boys team, along with 14 other teams, was disqualified during the 62nd edition following detection of overage player. DYRS Director Sekhose had later said that the incident was not intentional.

In 2022, the U-17 boys team of Pilgrim Higher Secondary School, Dimapur, representing Nagaland, brought the trophy to the State after a drought of 42 years.
