The 12th Sumi Baptist Akukuhou Küqhakulu (SBAK, Nito Mount) Children Conference concluded in Aichi Saghemi Village on Sunday afternoon.

Held under the theme ‘In Jesus’ footsteps’, the three-day conference was attended by over four thousand delegates.

The concluding programme on Sunday began with an invocation prayer by Iliholi, APW, UBC Tizu Island.

Livika, APC, SBC ‘B’ Mokokchung was the chairperson of the programme.

Extending greetings, H Khehovi Yepthomi, Advisor Tourism and Art & Culture, sought the children’s prayer first before beginning his speech stating that the children’s hearts are pure and virtuous.

Quoting a Chinese adage, he said: “If you plan for a year, plant crops. If you plan for 10 years plant trees and if you plan for 100 years, educate children.”

He stressed on the importance of nurturing children with spiritual teachings while also educating them the value of Sumi dialect, custom and traditions.

Today’s children are the leaders of tomorrow and they will carry on the legacy as elderly people tomorrow, the advisor said and added that efforts should be made to focus on developing children for the future generation.

Yepthomi also advised the children to obey their parents in the Lord as stated in the Bible. He also asked the children to respect their elders, educated, spiritual leaders if they wish to lead successful lives when they grow up.

Dr Hutton Sumi, the pastor of SBCZ, delivered the word of God during the concluding session. The pastor dwelled on the importance of nurturing the tenets of prayer, obedience and respect in children despite the challenges posed by modernization in today’s society. He said these challenges have ushered in added responsibilities on parents and these needed to be addressed collectively within a family.

The highlights of the concluding day included a choir presentation by Aghunato Town Baptist Church as well as choreography presentations by Asukhuto Town Baptist Church and Surumi Baptist Church.

Ghosheli Zhimo, the secretary of Children Ministry, SBAK expressed gratitude to the entire Aichi Saghemi Village for successfully hosting the three-day conference.
