The 4th Winter Open Airgun Shooting Competition, organised by the Airgun Sporting Association of Nagaland (ASAN), was held today at the Likya Community Hall in Wokha. The event was graced by Nzano P Kikon, Deputy Chairperson of the Wokha Town Council, who attended as the special guest for the event.
In her speech, Nzano P Kikon expressed her gratitude for being invited to the event and praised the association for its efforts in promoting sports in the region. She highlighted the importance of female participation in competitive sports, citing how women have outperformed men in international sporting arenas. While there were no female competitors this time, she encouraged female to participate in shooting sports. She also commended ASAN for providing a platform for emerging shooters, with the potential for Wokha’s athletes to compete internationally.
Ajit John, a founding member of ASAN, delivered the vote of thanks. He thanked God for the success of the event and the enthusiastic participation of local youth. He shared the association’s vision to expand its reach beyond Wokha to other districts such as Kohima and Dimapur. He emphasised the importance of focusing on grassroots development to ensure equal opportunities for shooters across Nagaland. He also expressed gratitude to the sponsors of the event, including AZ Communication and Trading, M/S T.R. Lotha Electrical Division, IZZE Collection, and R. Murry Gun House, for their continued support.

The winners of the competition were L. Yibomo Odyuo, who claimed the championship title, followed by Benathung Ovung as the first runner-up and M. Nyamo Odyuo in third place.
The event was chaired by Zachamo Ovung, Secretary-General of ASAN, with the opening prayer led by Orenboni Kikon, Deaconess of the Wokha Town Baptist Church. The welcome address was delivered by Ajamo Odyuo, President of ASAN, and a special musical performance was presented by Sojano Tsopoe.
Out of 40 registered participants, 34 turned up for the competition. The organisers noted a higher turnout this year compared to previous editions. The event concluded with the declaration of the raffle draw.
