The Naga Students’ Union Mizoram observed it’s 24th Freshers Meet cum Cultural Day on the theme, ‘Towards Identity and Empowerment’ at Art & Cultural Auditorium, Berawtlang, Mizoram on 15 October.
L Thangmawia, MLA and vice chairman of Human Resource Development Board, Government of Mizoram, Aizawl attended the event as the special guest. In his address to the student community, he noted how the state of Nagaland and Mizoram as neighbouring states and part of the Northeast share a good close-knitted relationship with each other.
Among the many similarities shared by the two tribal states, Thangmawai stated the ways of Christianity that Mizorom has followed from Nagaland apart from the struggle for independence that Nagas have endured so far.
Encouraging the students in attendance to know their priorities, the MLA advised them to focus on their academics and to strive towards contributing to their community, their state and the nation.
He further encouraged the students to work hard and remain dedicated.
Takolong Kichu, the president of NSU Mizoram, in the welcome address said programmes like this are perfect to build friendships with new people as well as with seniors. He added that it is not only about education but also about building one’s personality, attitude and character and becoming a versatile person.
During the programme, 49 fresher students were welcomed. Atyule Tep, Optometry Department, RIPANS and Zubenthung M Kikon, Department of Master in Library and Information Science, Mizoram University were declared Miss & Mr Freshers 2022.
The pastor Naga Christian Fellowship Mizoram, Benjamin, prayed for the freshers.
The programme was chaired by Nemhoikim Doungel while Rev Lungjingam Pamei prayed for the programme.
