Anuradha S Chagti, Joint Secretary, Ministry of DoNER, Delhi, visited Ruchan village in Wokha on 10 October and held an extensive interactive session with the villagers for first-hand information on the current status of the identified village.
Chagti is in charge of the Sambhav Mission Mode programme for focussed development of backward blocks/villages.
She held an interactive session with the village council, GBs, VDB, SMDC, VEC, Health Committee, WATSAN, ASHA, ANM, AWW and others in Ruchan village.
The Joint Secretary also carried out personal visitations to the primary schools and Anganwadi centre,
The purpose of the visit to Ruchan was to understand the current status of the village with regard to the key indicators and also the needs of the state before finalising the programme.
District administration, officials from line departments as well as public and church leaders were present during the interactive session and spot visitations.
In the session, Chagti said the Sambhav Mission Mode is a programme formulated by DoNER to achieve saturation of development targets in selected/ identified backward blocks or villages across the North East. This would be done by convergence and monitoring performance of key indicators such as access to health care system, education, financial inclusion, clean drinking water and sanitation, clean and affordable energy and power and road connectivity.
While highlighting the need for road connectivity for economic activities, the Council Chairman of Ruchan village stated that although the village is highly endowed with economic and development potentials, lack of road connectivity causes loss to their hard labour and hampers their growth.

Village Council, VDBs and Village Education Committee hold an interactive session with the Joint Secretary and Additional Secretary of Ministry of Donor.
The chairman later told Nagaland Tribune that they had laid down proposals before the Ministry of DoNER for proper road connectivity, Agri link road, a playground, an Anganwadi centre, a marketing shed and a Panchayat Hall with proper toilets attached.
The Village Education Committee had also proposed for clean drinking water, a school approach road and a separate toilet for boys and girls in the school.
The chairman informed that under Wokha district, Ruchan and Yonchucho villages were chosen for development work and added that they were hoping for a good outcome.
