Prime accused arrested in Kohima Court narcotics theft case

In a major breakthrough, Kohima Police have arrested the prime accused in connection with the sensational theft of heroin from the Malkhanna (evidence storage room) of the Prosecution Inspector’s Court in Kohima. The arrest comes nearly three months after the daring burglary that sent shockwaves through the state’s judicial and law enforcement systems.

The incident occurred in the early hours of March 22, 2025, between 1 a.m. and 2 am., when unidentified individuals broke into the court’s secure storage facility. The culprits made away with 45 soap cases containing approximately 675 grams of suspected heroin – vital evidence in ongoing narcotics cases.

Following the heist, Kohima Police launched an intensive investigation, prioritizing the case due to the serious implications for the justice system. The months-long probe, led by SDPO (North) Kohima, Sheta Lohe, finally bore fruit on June 13 with the arrest of 28-year-old Kevichutuo Cüze, identified as the key suspect in the case.

Cüze has since been remanded to judicial custody. Police are now focused on critical next steps which involves recovering the stolen Heroin, uncovering accomplices and strengthening the case for a watertight prosecution.

Stating that the arrest is a significant development in a case that struck at the integrity of judicial process, the Kohima Police said investigation remains active, and that they are determined to recover the stolen narcotics and ensure all involved face the full force of the law.
