CYF demands swift action in June 15 molestation case; gives police 2 weeks

The Chakhesang Youth Front (CYF) has submitted a formal representation to the Commissioner of Police Dimapur, seeking immediate and decisive action in connection with the alleged abduction and molestation of a woman on June 15 in Dimapur. The incident reportedly took place inside a moving autorickshaw (NL-07FA-4980) driven by one Nur Islam.

Expressing deep concern over the increasing crimes against women in Nagaland, the CYF has demanded that the investigation be completed within two weeks. The organisation warned that failure to do so would compel them to seek alternative recourse.

According to the CYF, the victim stated that the driver diverted the auto towards Showuba from 4th Mile Junction without her knowledge or consent. The co-passenger also allegedly remained silent throughout, leading CYF to allege that the crime was premeditated. The organisation demanded that the case be treated not only as molestation and sexual assault but also as abduction, kidnapping, assault, and an attempted rape and murder. It called for the driver to be charged as complicit in the crime.

Further, CYF has urged authorities to conduct an immediate ossification test of the co-passenger, who is reportedly 17 years old. Should the test confirm his age, the organisation insisted that he be tried under adult provisions of the Juvenile Justice Act 2015, which allows juveniles aged 16 to 18 to be tried as adults in heinous offences.

The representation also highlighted the victim’s ordeal, noting that she had to jump from the moving vehicle to escape. This resulted in severe physical injuries, including to her face. CYF pointed out that the victim, a trained hospitality professional and family breadwinner, now faces career uncertainty due to the disfigurement and trauma.

Demanding justice and redressal, CYF called on authorities to compensate the victim under Section 357 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) to support her medical treatment, including plastic surgery, or to fund alternative skill development if she is unable to return to her previous profession.

CYF President Kevesa Khamo and General Secretary Nokho Nyekha signed the memorandum, urging the police department to ensure justice for the victim and uphold the safety and dignity of women in the state.
