Hundreds of mourners congregated on Friday morning at the Nagaland Baptist Church Council Convention Centre in the state capital to pay their last respects to Dr. Phyobemo Ngully, a respected health advocate from Kohima, who passed away on June 3 at the age of 69.
Hailing from Tsungiki village under Wokha district, Ngully was an alumnus of Sainik School Purulia (West Bengal), Andhra Medical College Vishakhapatnam and Central Institute of Psychiatry Ranchi. He had served in different capacities under the state medical department including an assistant surgeon, and retired as the Medical Superintendent of Mental Hospital Kohima. He also held numerous other positions throughout his career including president of the Nagaland Doctors Association, executive member of Indian Psychiatric Society (Eastern Zone), and director of the Kripa Foundation Nagaland, among others. He was serving as the chairman Kohima Educational Society and chairman Kripa Foundation Nagaland till his demise.

As a member of the Forum for Naga Reconciliation (FNR), Dr. Ngully was also part of the Naga delegation that recently visited the Pitt Rivers Museum at the University of Oxford UK last month, participating in the dialogue towards the repatriation of ancestral Naga human remains held at the museum.
Following the funeral service at the NBCC Convention Centre Kohima, his mortal remains were taken to the final resting place in Chukitong, Wokha.
On Thursday, Deputy Chief Minister Yanthungo Patton expressed sadness over the demise of Dr. P Ngully. “He was known for his dedication to public service and his commitment to his people,” Patton stated while extending condolences to the bereaved family members
