Skeletal remains of unidentified person found in Dzüü river; police seek public assistance for identification

Kohima police has notified the retrieval of the skeletal remains of an unidentified woman from the Dzüü river downstream at Zero Point, near Chedema on the July 5 at around 5 PM.

In a statement on Sunday, police said the recovery operation was carried out following established procedures. After a thorough inquest and post-mortem examination, the remains have been established as belonging to a female aged approximately 25 to 30 years.

“All requisite legal formalities have been completed in this connection. The skeletal remains are currently secured at the Morgue facility of the North Police Station, Kohima, pending identification,” the statement said.

Towards this, Kohima police urgently appealed to the public for assistance in identifying the deceased person. Police requested any individual or family who know of or have reported a person missing, particularly in Chedema area or in the vicinity of Dzüü river, and the circumstances might correspond with the recovery, to come forward and provide any details regarding the missing person such as approximate time of disappearance, description, or last known location.

“Anyone with potentially relevant information is requested to immediately contact the North Police Station, Kohima at the dedicated phone number: 7005986018,” the police appealed.

It added that public cooperation is vital towards helping the authorities establish the identity of the deceased, and ultimately bring closure to affected families.
