Village Guards of Thoktsur Village Celebrated their 50th year anniversary on 31 October in Thoktsur Village under Noklak District.
The Special Guest for the programme, S Keoshu Yimkhuing, Advisor Information & Public Relation, Village Guards, Government of Nagaland in his speech acknowledged the Village Guards for rendering their valuable service in guarding, protecting and maintaining law and order in the area.
Yimkhuing also stated that their selfless services have been recognised at the national level by being conferred awards in recognition of their meritorious sacrifices over the years.
He urged the VGs to shun their differences to achieve development and progress in the remote area of the state and to set an example of unity and strength by living in harmony.
Dr Pritpal Kaur Batra, IPS, SP Noklak District said the Village Guards are the ones who guard places where the police personnel can’t reach. Beginning in 1957 and even during the Mara Pane War, Village Guards have rendered their invaluable services and supreme sacrifices.
She also said people must salute them for their acts of bravery and heroism and urged them to continue living up to their good name as the finest VG volunteers.
Thoktsur village has 25 village guards who play a vital role in guarding the village 24 hours fully armed. A man may become a village guard after reaching the age of 21 and can remain in the post as long as they remain fit. The village has 120 households.
Advisor L Khumo as the Guest of Honour also spoke on the need to live in unity. The other speaker on the occasion was Commandant VG Noklak K Heno.
Earlier, after the dignitaries were received warmly by the Thoktsur VG, a folk dance was performed by the Wui Village Dancing Troup. A vote of thanks was delivered by GB M Puchai.
