UTT 28th Inter-District and State TT Championship conclude at Indoor TT stadium Kohima

The UTT 28th Inter-District and State Table Tennis Championship 2025 concluded on October 3 at the Indoor TT Stadium, Kohima organised by the Nagaland Table Tennis Association (NTTA) .

All together 146 players from 13 districts competed in 17 events of singles, doubles and team competitions.

C. Manpon Konyak, Member of Legislative Assembly who was the special guest of the closing ceremony congratulated the NTTA for organizing the Championship. He highlighted that these kinds of events not only benefit one’s health but also is a good platform for sports careers. The MLA mentioned small nations like Malta, Nauru and Bermuda, with lesser populations than Nagaland, which have made their mark in global sporting events. Referring to that example, he encouraged young Nagas to look forward for such achievements that will go down history.

Konyak also requested the youngsters to retrospect in various areas of life, urging the gathering to be active in social issues while highlighting the challenges of factionalism and tribalism. “This sickness has become an epitome for Nagas to grow together. Let us draw some good lines in our social circle,” he noted .

Konyak thanked the Chief Minister Dr. Neiphiu Rio for his pioneering efforts and visions, and for  peace and development in the state. The MLA also urged the gathering, specially the educated youth,  to come closer and work hand in hand so that the government can achieve its vision for the State.

The vote of thanks was proposed by Er. Vikheto Shohe, Vice president of NTTA.

Championship Winners

Kohima district stamped its authority at the UTT 28th Inter-District and State Table Tennis Championship 2025, finishing as overall champions with an impressive haul of nine golds, seven silvers and five bronzes.

Star Performances

The championship witnessed spirited contests across age groups and categories. Rising stars Rhode John and Kitipen Jamir gave Kohima an early lead, clinching the U-13 Boys’ and U-15 Girls’ Singles titles. Chümoukedima’s V. Shepeka captured the U-15 Boys’ Singles crown, while Wokha celebrated through Yimtisenla Chang in the U-17 Girls’ event.

In the U-17 Boys’ final, Vilavotuo of Chümoukedima edged out Jacob of Niuland in a hard-fought five-setter. Kohima’s women’s ace, Thejavinuo Rio, emerged champion after a seven-set thriller against Avitoli K. Yepthomi of Niuland, while Tsakhe Kenye powered his way to the Men’s Singles crown. In the veterans’ categories, Dimapur’s Visasier Kevichusa and Mokokchung’s Juthsutho took the honours in the 40+ and 50+ divisions.

 

The doubles events reinforced Kohima’s dominance with victories by Kitipen Jamir and Lungceipgumle Lungalung (U-17 Girls’), Thejavinuo Rio and Avitoli K. Yepthomi (Women’s Doubles), and Tsakhe Kenye alongside Seyievilie Seyie (Men’s Doubles). Dimapur’s pair of Akumlong Longkumer and Chito Aye clinched the U-17 Boys’ Doubles, while Visasier Kevichusa (Dimapur) teamed with L. David (Niuland) for the 40+ Men’s Doubles. In the Mixed Doubles, Seyievilie Seyie (Kohima) and Avitoli K. Yepthomi (Niuland) took top honours.

 

Team contests saw Kohima sweep both the Men’s and Women’s team championships, underlining their comprehensive strength.

Medal Standings

Kohima finished far ahead of the rest, taking nine golds, seven silvers and five bronzes. Dimapur followed with four golds, two silvers and two bronzes. Chümoukedima returned home with two golds, one silver and one bronze, while Wokha secured one gold, one silver and two bronzes. Mokokchung rounded off the tally with one gold and one bronze.
