Akashvani Kohima launches “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” campaign

Kohima: As per Forest Dept data, 28 lakh trees of 35 lakh target set for Nagaland planted

The Staff of Akashvani Station, Kohima took part in planting trees at the office premises today joining the “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” (A tree in mother’s name) launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the occasion of World Environment Day this year. With this event organised in Kohima, Akashvani launched the campaign for all its stations across Nagaland, Akashvani Kohima informed in a press release.

Cluster Head of Kohima and Deputy Director General (Engineering) K K Rengma participated by planting a sapling at the office and encouraged the staff to plant one tree sapling each-be it at the office or residences. He expressed optimism that this campaign will encourage people across the country to contribute towards preservation of Mother Earth.

Programme Executive Ella Kayina said, Akashvani set up in the State will join in the campaign till March 2025. She also informed that the state of Nagaland has been given a target of 35 lakhs tree plantations and updated the latest report of the State Forest department, that about 28 lakh trees have been already planted in the state.

Kayina informed that saplings were procured at a minimum rate from the department of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Nagaland. She said, the office has so far planted ornamental trees, flowering and fruit bearing trees.

Range Forest Officer, Kohima, Medolezo Kire also attended the event and planted a tree sapling. He expressed delight on the initiative undertaken by the Akashvani Kohima.

A total of 24 saplings of trees and ornamental plants were planted at the office premises today.

Akashvani Kohima has said that it has scheduled specific days for the plantation drive for all the employees posted at Dimapur, High Power Transmitter Zubza, Local Radio Station at Mokokchung, Community Radio Stations at Mon and Tuensang, Phek, Wokha and Zunheboto including staff quarters.

“Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” campaign aims to halt and reverse land degradation, build drought resistance and prevent desertification. The goal is to plant 80 crore trees by September 2024 and 140 crore trees by March 2025 by engaging all stakeholders across society.
