The Angami Public Organisation has on Monday urged the Nagaland Government ‘NOT’ to let the “‘Gau Dhwai Sthapana Bharat Yatra’ enter Nagaland. The APO pointed out that the Hindus in Nagaland coexist peacefully with the Nagas and the yatra that campaigns to ban the slaughter of cow “will only go the disturb the hitherto cordial relation amongst the communities in Nagaland.”
The Organisation said that no Naga festival is celebrated without the slaughter of the cow and that “any campaign to ban the slaughter of cow in the Naga inhabited area is bound to face fierce resentment.”
“While we do not impose on others what to eat and what not to eat, we are against any authority or group imposing their eating habits on us,” it added.
Further, the APO stated that “mother” in the Naga society has its own rightful place with very high esteem and sanctity and that in the Naga culture, it is a taboo to address any animal as our “mother” or “father”.
We are totally against anyone dictating us on how to address our cows and dogs, the Angami Public Organisation stated.
The ‘Gau Dhwaj Sthapana Bharat Yatra’ is part of the ‘Gau Pratishtha Andola’ which seeks to make India free of cow slaughter. The Yatra will commence on 22nd September 2024 and will visit the capitals of all Indian States and Union Territories. The Yatra is scheduled to come to Kohima on 28th September 2024.
