Asetkong Mungdang confers Yajen Aier Honourary Award; AKTM presents Excellency Awards

The 7th Asetkong Mungdang Yajen Aier Honourary Award and Asetkong Students Union (AKTM) Excellency Award programme was held at Senden Salang, Süngratsü on May 23 on the theme “Reinvigorating Teaching and Learning.”

In the HSSLC category, Tirmen Jamir of Little Star Higher Secondary School, Dimapur secured Top 3 in the Science stream with 95.20 percent, while Ungnir L. Kichu of Lima Aier Higher Secondary School, Dimapur secured Top 8(b) in the Science stream with 92 percent.

In the HSLC category, Retina Jamir of Little Flower Higher Secondary School, Kohima secured Top 16(b) with 95.33 percent.

The Yajen Aier Award also honoured best-performing students from Tzükong (Asetkong range) schools. In Class 10, Limaonger of GHS Longjang secured the award with 73.33 percent. In Class 9, Aosanen of Clark Memorial Higher Secondary School, Impur secured the award with 64.5 percent, while in Class 8, Sashimongla I. Longkumer of Government High School, Longjang secured the award with 98.71 percent.

The AKTM Excellency Award was also presented to Tirmen Jamir, Ungnir L. Kichu and Retina Jamir for their performance in the Nagaland Board of School Education (NBSE) examinations. The recipients received cash awards of Rs. 10,000 each along with certificates.

Addressing the gathering, S Bendang Aier, Council Chairman, Süngratsü, said the award programme was instituted in 2020 following a resolution adopted during the Asetkong Mungdang conference in 2019.

He said the first three editions of the programme were organised at Kobulong before it was decided to host the event on a rotational basis among the Asetkong villages. The fifth edition was held at Longjang, the sixth at Longpa and the seventh edition at Süngratsü.

Aier also said the programme has been jointly organised with the Asetkong Students’ Conference (AKTM) since the fourth edition.

Speaking at the programme, Obangnener Jamir, NCS, EAC Kobulong, congratulated the awardees and encouraged students not to compare themselves with others but to strive for self-improvement every day.

He also urged parents to pay attention to the emotional and psychological well-being of their children and expressed concern over the decline in enrolment in government schools within the Asetkong range.

The Yajen Aier Honorary Award is named after Yajen Aier, the first Education Director of the Government of Nagaland.

The programme was chaired by Asenla Aier, teacher, GHS Longjang. Lulen Walling, Associate Pastor of Süngratsü Baptist Church, pronounced the dedicatory prayer for the students, while a special song was presented by the Süngratsü Students’ Union.
