The 3rd Quarterly National Lok Adalat held across Nagaland disposed of 387 out of 444 cases taken up, recording an overall disposal rate of about 87% and a total settlement amount of ₹5,25,66,901.20.

Eleven benches were constituted at the district headquarters under the aegis of the Nagaland State Legal Services Authority (NSLSA).

Of the cases disposed of, 318 were at the pre-litigation stage and 69 were pending cases. The matters taken up included bank and loan recovery cases, telephone bills, criminal compoundable offences, Motor Accident Claims Tribunal (MACT) cases and other civil matters.

Dimapur records highest disposal

The Dimapur District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) conducted its 3rd Quarterly National Lok Adalat at the District Court premises. Member Secretary Sir Neiko Akami delivered the introductory note, highlighting the benefits of Lok Adalat and encouraging litigants to make use of the platform for speedy settlement of disputes.

Longshithung Ezung, Chairman, and Julian, Secretary, Dimapur DLSA, were the Presiding Officers. Panel Lawyers served as conciliators with assistance from Para-Legal Volunteers (PLVs).

A total of 152 cases were disposed of, comprising 123 bank recovery cases, three MACT cases, 25 BSNL cases and one pre-institution mediation and conciliation matter. The total settlement amount stood at ₹1,71,30,176.

Kohima settles over ₹1.93 crore

The Kohima DLSA conducted the National Lok Adalat at the District Court Complex, Kohima. Mezivolu T Therieh, NJS, Principal District and Sessions Judge and Chairperson, Kohima DLSA, was the Presiding Officer.

A total of 52 bank recovery cases, eight BSNL cases, one commercial suit and one NI Act case were settled, involving a total settlement amount of ₹1,93,72,236.

Eight Panel Lawyers served as conciliators with assistance from four PLVs.

The National Lok Adalat provided litigants with an opportunity to resolve disputes through conciliation and settlement, offering a faster and less adversarial alternative to prolonged litigation.

District-wise disposal

In Tuensang, the DLSA conducted the National Lok Adalat at the District Court Complex, with Somet Chumden Chang, NJS, Principal District and Sessions Judge-cum-Chairman, as the Presiding Officer. Tsaliba, NJS, JMFC-cum-Secretary, along with Retainer Lawyer P Herola and Panel Lawyer Ayangla, served as conciliators.

The SBI Main and Bazar branches and Nagaland State Cooperative Bank participated. Five cases involving an outstanding amount of ₹23,19,547 were taken up, all of which were disposed of with a settlement amount of ₹8,61,913.

In Zunheboto, five pre-litigation bank recovery cases were taken up and all were disposed of, with a total settlement amount of ₹20,63,645. Atoka Achumi, NJS, District and Sessions Judge-cum-Chairman, ZDLSA, and Vesutolu Therie, NJS, JMFC-cum-Secretary, were the Presiding Officers.

In Mokokchung, 11 pre-litigation bank recovery cases were taken up, of which 10 were disposed of, with a settlement amount of ₹8,85,610. Victo Sema, NJS, District and Sessions Judge-cum-Chairman, MDLSA, presided over the proceedings.

In Mon, 19 pre-litigation and litigation bank recovery cases were taken up, of which 16 were disposed of, with a total settlement amount of ₹48,78,450. Nokshei Kano, NJS, District and Sessions Judge-cum-Chairman, and Wokono Yhoshii, NJS, Chief Judicial Magistrate-cum-Secretary, were the Presiding Officers.

In Phek, all 37 pre-litigation bank recovery cases taken up were disposed of, with a total settlement amount of ₹35,41,222. Duvelu Vero, NJS, District and Sessions Judge-cum-Chairperson, Phek DLSA, and Kilemsungla Jamir, NJS, JMFC-cum-Secretary, presided over the proceedings.

In Wokha, five pre-litigation bank recovery cases were taken up, of which four were settled. Five pending trial criminal compoundable cases were also taken up, with three settled. The total settlement amount was ₹1,91,500.

In Peren, 51 pre-litigation bank recovery cases and one pre-litigation dispute relating to electricity bills were taken up. Of these, 42 bank recovery cases were settled and disposed of, with a total settlement amount of ₹16,23,400.

In Longleng, six pre-litigation and four pending litigation cases were taken up, of which six were disposed of, with a settlement amount of ₹5,68,957.22.

In Kiphire, 47 pre-litigation bank recovery cases were taken up, of which 44 were disposed of, with a total settlement amount of ₹14,49,792.
