ASF outbreak reported in Toulazouma village; Chümoukedima administration issues restrictions

Following the confirmation of African Swine Fever outbreak at Toulazouma Village under Chümoukedima district, the district administration has imposed a series of containment measures with immediate effect to prevent further spread of the disease.

According to an advisory issued by Deputy Commissioner, Polan John, based on a report received from the Office of the Chief Veterinary Officer, the area within a one-kilometre radius from the outbreak epicentre has been declared as the “Infected Zone,” while the area within a 10-kilometre radius has been designated as the “Surveillance Zone.”

The advisory stated that movement and transportation of pigs, pork, pig products, feed and related materials within and outside the notified zones have been strictly prohibited.

Further, slaughter, sale and distribution of pigs and pork products within the containment zones will remain banned until further orders.

The Veterinary Department along with law enforcement agencies has been directed to undertake surveillance, monitoring and other preventive measures in the affected areas.

All village councils, GBs, ward authorities, butchers, meat vendors and citizens have been asked to strictly comply with the advisory and immediately report any unusual sickness or death of pigs to the nearest veterinary office.

The administration also directed all pig farm owners to maintain proper biosecurity measures, including regular disinfection and restricted access to farms.

The disposal of pig carcasses, the advisory stated, must be carried out strictly in accordance with protocols laid down by the Veterinary Department and Government of India guidelines.

The district administration warned that any violation of the advisory would invite action under relevant provisions of law.

The order came into force with immediate effect and will remain in force until further notification.
