The Assam-Nagaland Foothills Coordination Forum and the North East Indigenous People’s Forum (NEIPF) will be organising the third edition of the Foothills National Drama Festival at Kharikatia, Jorhat, Assam from January 27 to 29, 2025.
This was informed by the organisers at a press conference held at Jorhat Press Club on 22 January 2025. The three-day Festival is aimed to strengthen the traditional bond of the villages near the border of the two states.
Addressing the media, N. Ibungochoubi, Secretary General, NEIPF, noted the minor inter-state and inter-community clashes and commended the indigenous people of the region for initiating the Foothills National Drama Festival to exhibit to the world that people can exist in a harmonious way. “… irrespective of differences, irrespective of the man-made human boundaries, we have to live together and we have to coexist in the most human and harmonious manner,” he stated.
Ibungochoubi also hoped that the significance of the festival will be recognized by not only Nagaland and Assam but by the entire North East Region. He added that the event is an opportunity for “soul searching” to find peace and harmony through culture and re-visit the indigenous cultura identity.
The press conference was attended by representatives of the Foothills Coordination Forum from both States, N. Ibungochoubi, Secretary General, NEIPF and Khehoto Kiho Swu, Executive Member, NEIPF.
