The prestigious Bharatiya Kala Mahotsav organised by Northeastern Handicraft and Handloom Development Corporation (NEHHDC) under the Ministry of DONER is set to take place at the Rashtrapati Nilayam, bringing together a vibrant showcase of Northeast India’s rich cultural heritage. In line with the President of India’s vision to transform presidential estates into cultural hubs, the festival will highlight the unique traditions, arts, crafts, and culinary delights of Northeast India, promoting national unity through cultural diversity.
The festival, which runs from September 28 to October 6, will be inaugurated by Droupadi Murmu, President of India which will feature eight state pavilions dedicated to artisans from the Northeast. Each pavilion will spotlight the region’s renowned craftsmanship, offering visitors a firsthand experience of indigenous arts and traditions. One of the highlights will be the GI Pavilion, which aims to elevate and promote the authorized users of geographical indication (GI) textiles and crafts from the region.
Additionally, the event will feature live demonstrations of indigenous crafts, allowing artisans to showcase ancient skills passed down through generations. Eight traditional tribal huts representing different states will offer a captivating glimpse into the lifestyle and culture of the region. Visitors will also have the opportunity to explore Northeast India’s tourism potential and culinary diversity, providing an authentic taste of its rich heritage and natural beauty. Chakhesang Tribe will be representing Nagaland at the traditional tribal huts.

In keeping with the festival’s mission to engage the youth, a series of interactive activities will be organized to inspire younger generations and deepen their understanding of the region’s culture, traditions, and sustainable practices.
A total of 33 participants from Nagaland will be attending the festival, contributing to the state’s representation in this national celebration of the Northeast’s unique identity. With its rich tribal culture, breathtaking landscapes, and vast potential for tourism, Northeast India remains one of the country’s most vibrant yet underexplored cultural hubs.
