Neighborhood village councils, local organizations, and administrative officers have joined forces to support rebuilding efforts in Longzang village, located under the Phomching sub-division, following a destructive fire incident.
Speaking to the Nagaland Tribune, Longzang Village VDB Secretary, K Khampei Konyak stated that the exact cause of the blaze remains unknown due to lack of eyewitnesses, though an electrical short circuit is currently suspected. At the time the fire broke out, most adult men and women were away attending an official job card photograph session, leaving mainly children in the village.
To shelter the affected families, houses were built by the joint efforts of the Longzang Village Council, Wetting Village Council, and Pukha Village Council, alongside local community members.
In response to the tragedy, immediate relief and joint reconstruction activities were also carried over by various individuals and organisations. Sub-Divisional Officer (Civil) for Phomching, Vejoyo Swuro, NCS, visited the village to assess the damage and provided immediate cash assistance, while the Konyak Union (KU) contributed both relief materials and monetary aid.

Demonstrating deep community cooperation, community members along with the Longzang Village Council, Pukha Village Council, and Wetting Village Council joined forces directly on the ground to construct replacement homes for the affected families.

A wide delegation of regional leadership, student bodies, and civic organizations arrived throughout the day to support the community. The extensive visitors list included SDO (C) Vejoyo Swuro, NCS, representatives from the Konyak Union, Phomching Area Students’ Union, Phomching KU Unit, Longwa Village Council, Phomching Town Baptist Church, Pukha Village Council, Wetting Village Council, Village Council Association RD-Block Phomching, the Officer-in-Charge of Phomching Police Station, Phomching Town Students’ Union, Longzang Union Phomching Town, alongside numerous individual well-wishers working together to assist the village.
