CSU Saksi Night Carnival concludes in Tuensang

Tuensang: Tanlei Chang speaks on cultural significance, urges students to preserve culture and heritage

A Night Carnival was hosted by the Chang Students’ Union Saksi Tuensang from 1-8 August 2024 at Sao Chang College Ground, Tuensang. The eight days Carnival culminated with hundreds of visitors that gathered together and witnessed the course of events with much excitement and vigour.

Speaking at the closing ceremony on Thursday, Tanlei Chang, Executive of Chang Mutli Thangjam Saksi, expressed gratitude to Chang Students Union Saksi for organizing the carnival. Chang remarked that the carnival is a major attraction for the residents, fostering joy, bringing families and friends together.

Addressing the students, he highlighted the importance of preserving cultural identity. He encouraged the students to take pride in wearing and owning the traditions and practices that are passed down to keep the unique heritage alive. “Cherish culture significance as it has its own music, literature, festival, clothing and many unique characteristics, use and enjoy often in day-to-day life by organising culture events and taking guidance from the elders,” Chang stated.

The programme was chaired by Tonching and invocation was pronounced by Tia, Deacon. Sangle, President of CSU, addressed the gathering which was followed by a performance from Olinchipen S. The Vote of Thanks was delivered by Saksi Changsao Thangjam, while Onen, Pastor, Saksi Baptist Lashong, said the closing prayer.

The event was then followed by a Tug of War with cheerful participation from the Tribal Unions, Students Union, Belly Star and Taxi Driver Union. The event ended with Belly Star as the champions.
