DC Tseminyu informs on telecommunication services

In view of the recurring frequent disruptions in mobile and internet services in the District, due to damage to optical fibre Cables and related telecom infrastructure, the DC Tseminyu, Japheth Woch informed all the public that any damage, theft or interference with telecom infrastructure including optical fibre Cables joint enclosure and related equipment is punishable offence under the law.

DC has directed village Councils and Local authorities to take responsibility for protecting telecom infrastructure within their respective Areas and to create awareness among the public. He further directs the telecom services providers to properly maintain their installations, co-ordinate with Local authorities and ensure quick restoration of services in case of any disruptions. All incidents of damage/disruptions must be immediately reported to the District Administration and nearest police station without delay.

Legal action would be initiated against any person found involved in such activities under relevant provisions of the Information Technology Act 2000, including sections 43,66 and 66 B and under applicable provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) 2023, including 303 (theft) 317 (stolen property) and 324 (mischief).

Furthermore under section 42(5) of the Telecommunication Act 2023, damaging Telecommunication infrastructure is a punishable offence with a fine up to Rs.50 lakh. Offenders shall be liable for imprisonment, fine and recovery of restoration costs as per law.
