The Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra spearheaded by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi arrived at Mokokchung district on Wednesday, the last day of the Nagaland leg. In his address to the public, he remarked that it is injustice for people to travel on the roads in the State.

It is a betrayal of the people of Nagaland, Gandhi remarked. He asked how positive future can be expected when the youth have to use these roads. The Congress leader further asked how it is fair that a Naga child has to deal on these roads and compete with youth from other States. He then said that the idea of the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra is to bring the country’s attention to such matters that are being neglected.

“You have a soldier in New Delhi called Rahul Gandhi. If you want me to raise any issue in Parliament, I’m more than happy to do it”, he assured the people in Mokokchung Town.

On the stalled Naga political issue, Gandhi reiterated that it is a shame the Prime Minister of India has made a commitment to the Naga people nine years ago and has done nothing about it.

“If you don’t have a solution, you shouldn’t lie and say you have one!” he remarked, adding that a solution cannot be brought without having the trust of the people of Nagaland. Rahul Gandhi then asserted that the Congress Party is “committed to doing the hard work that is required to get a solution.”

On Wednesday, Rahul Gandhi also visited the Nagaland Gandhi Ashram at Chuchuyimlang village that was founded by Padma Shri Natwar Thakkar in 1955.

Day-4 of the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra started from Chukitong in Wokha district and headed towards VK Town in Zunheboto district where Rahul Gandhi received a warm welcome.

From Chuchuyimlang, Mokokchung district, the yatra will move to Merangkong and then to Tuli to halt for the night.

The yatra will exit Nagaland on Thursday morning and enter Assam.
