ECI revises schedule for General Election in J&K and Haryana

New Delhi: Reschedule because of centuries old Asoj Amavasya festival celebration

The Election Commission of India had rescheduled the date of poll for Haryana State Assembly election and the date of counting for both Haryana and Jammu and Kashmir.

The ECI said that the revision has been made as a result of representations from National Political Parties, State Political Party and All India Bishnoi Mahasabha regarding mass movement of people of Bishnoi community of Haryana to Rajasthan to participate in centuries old Asoj Amavasya festival celebration which may deny voting rights to large number of people and may lead to reduce voters’ participation in general election to legislative assembly of Haryana.

As per the earlier schedule, the date of poll for J&K (Phase-3) and Haryana was fixed on 1st October 2024 (Tuesday), date of counting on 4th October 2024 (Friday) and date of completion of election process on 6th October 2024 (Sunday).

Now the date of poll in Haryana will be on 5th October 2024 (Sunday) and date of counting and date of completion for both Haryana and J&K will be 8th October and 10th October 2024 respectively.
