The Gauhati High Court has today quashed the appointment of 935 police constables made by the Nagaland Government between January 2018 and October 2019 and has directed the State Government to hold new selection within six months.
The Court was hearing the matter of petitions filed by “unemployed youth” alleging that government had made the appointments without advertising the posts.
Reading out the judgement today, Justice Devashis Baruah directed the Government to hold fresh selection for the 935 constable posts by issuance of advertisement and in accordance with the law. Further, Justice Baruah said that those candidates who were not selected earlier for the posts would be eligible to participate and that the upper age limit for the for the petitioners and the respondents would be relaxed.
The judgement also stated that the government may allow the appointees to remain in service for six months or till new appointments are made, whichever is earlier.
